"Dear Sister Griffith:
You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the Alabama Birmingham Mission. It is anticipated that you will serve for a period of 18 months."
SWEET HOME ALABAMA! That's where I'm headed, although my mission also covers areas of Mississippi and Tennessee. I depart to the Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Provo, UT on February 18. And I leave to my mission on March 3.
When I headed to China, I had already gone on a previous semester with ILP, so I knew what to expect. A mission, on the other hand, is a completely new experience. I am excited, scared, and sometimes feel inadequate. But I know that the Lord will make up for that, and guide me through, if only I am open to it.
A mission is different from a semester with ILP because of the time I will spend away. A semester with ILP is 4-5 months, and a LDS mission for a girl is 18 months. That's a lot of time, I know. But I can testify that this is the right step for me. I have been planning on a mission since I was 16. I know that a mission will be hard, and a huge sacrifice, but it will make me grow. It will make me grow in ways that semesters with ILP couldn't. Specifically, it's because of the spiritual nature of missions, and what exactly I'll be doing.
What will I be doing? Spreading the good news that Christ is here for you, and that He has a restored Gospel.
My mom will be taking over my blog while I'm on my mission. I will email her with posts, and she will add them to this blog. I will try to keep it updated on a regular basis.
I would appreciate hearing from you, so if you'd like to write me, here is my mission office address:
